Lucy is a magistrate who has been working for the Pastoral Care for Families of the Archdiocese of Port Moresby for the last 24 years. She is married, has 3 daughters, 14 grandchildren and many attempts to escape God’s challenges!
Straightforwardness, empathy, competence and a faith strong like a rock. Lucy often thinks that she would have the right to enjoy, have a peaceful life, and have fun with her grandchildren, but then she feels that she is called to serve her people, especially the women who are victims of violence and the troubled families. Every time somebody asks for her help, she says to God: “are you challenging me again?”. She knows already the answer and she goes for it, travelling throughout Papua New Guinea to give lectures, seminars, to listen, console and encourage.
She has been with us only for two days, but it seems she has stayed longer! She met our children (the big ones), the parents, the teachers, the boys, and the women who work with us. Domestic violence against women and children, alcohol and drugs, ignorance and lack of implementation of the law… she touched the hearts of many and gave hope to the women who greatly suffers from the violent behaviour of their partners.
We give thanks to the Lord for this new friend, her generosity and her example. We entrust to the Holy Spirit the good seeds this woman of God has sown in the heart of our people.
